Maxi Skirts: The Comeback!

A new (iish) trend that I am really learning to love is the maxi skirts trend! When it first started I did not like it, at all!! I didn't really see all the options that I would have with that piece of clothing, and I have to admit, I thought it was a little bit dated..
The other day I was watching some classic movies and saw the women wearing loong skirts. They were so elegant back then. Isn't it fun how fashion turns around?! Long skirts (or as we call them, maxi skirts) were used by women a long time ago, and now they are coming back with everything! I find it so interesting how the "fashion cicle" is always turning, moving.. pieces go in trend, go out of trend, come back in trend again, and so it continues..

After seeing soooo many people wearing maxi skirts nowadays, and not only wearing them, but wearing them soo well, I started to understand this massive comeback the maxi skirts had.
You can actually wear a maxi skirt to several ocasions and events, from a casual lunch with friends, to a formal dinner party!
Once you start observing how girls are wearing their skirts, you realize that there are many and many ways you can wear your maxi skirt, and give an interesting twist to your look!
For starters, a maxi skirt may be paired with a plain and simple tee, with a leather jacket, a denim jacket, a denim vest (looks soo cute), a fitted blazer (sometimes even an oversized blazer), formal shirts, button down shirts.. this list could go on forever because the possibilities are so many!
As for shoes, I like to wear them with ballet flats, because I want the focus of the outfit to be on the skirt, and nothing else, but there are several other ways to pair them with! During the day, flats are more recommended, just because they are more casual (remember, casual does not mean sloppy!). Wedges are also highly suggested when asking for tips on what to pair a maxi skirt with. Wedges can be used during the day or during the night. Either way, they look great with maxi skirts! They are very feminine, confortable, but not so chic, reason why they are perfect to be used during daytime. At night, at more formal events, I like to pair my skirt with heels, preferably simple ones (you don't want your shoe to take away the attention from the skirt, the centerpiece of the outfit). This way, they will elongate your silhouette!
A maxi skirt may be high waisted or normal. I prefer high waisted ones, just because I think they are cooler, but normal ones are just as pretty. With high waisted skirts, we usually tuck our shirt in, so that the skirt's high waist is noticed! When using a normal waisted skirt, you can wear a tank top over it, and pair it with an interesting belt, to make your outfit more elegant.

Bottom line, Maxi Skirts are awesome!
Here are some pictures to inspire :)

Here the girls are wearing printed maxi skirts, which is very cool! They all paired the skirt with a neutral shirt, so that the look does not seem exagerated.

In this picture, the girl is actually wearing a dress. She put a long shirt over it, so the dress looks like a skirt. Paired with a cool jacket, the sheer dress/skirt gets a whole new rocker vibe.

I love the way this fashionista put her look together! Actually, I love everything about this picture.. her skirt matching the beautiful trees.. her white shirt matching the sky.. it looks great!
Moving on to her outfit: she is wearing a plain high waisted maxi skirt, paired with a white top and a cool leather jacket. Simple, yet very chic!

This girl also paired her printed skirt with a leather jacket, but this time, a cropped jacket. I like the look, but I wouldn't wear it like this.. I just think there is too much information going on here. Printed skirt with a detailed jacket and detailed shirt just got a bit exagerated, don't you think?

We all now Serena dresses very well, don't we?! Here Blake Lively is on set and she was wearing a gorgeous outfit! The vibrant color of her skirt, paired with a white top and detailed vest go together perfectly. Even though she is wearing a printed bag, it didn't clash with the rest of her look. Notice how she is wearing neutral colored heels!! They went soo well with her skirt, even during the day!

Ok, so I'm not quite sure who this is (Mary-Kate or Ashley) but she did a great job here! Like I said, I love to pair a maxi skirt with a neutral top, and what is more neutral than white?! Black and white has always been and will always be a VERY elegant combination. Her black skirt is gorgeous.. plain and simple, just how I like it! It has just a liiitle bit of detailing at the bottom, which only made it look even prettier. Her long necklace gives something extra to the look and her hair style completes it! I loved this look soo much!! Simple, elegant, chic and young! I would only trade her tiny purse for a clutch (maybe even a colorfull one, to give a pop of color) but this outfit is amazing! Well done!

Last but not least, Kristin Cavallari wearing a very printed skirt with a white top. Kind of like the opposite of the look above, but this also looks amazing!

And remember, lots & lots of accessories are always welcome!!!!

Hope you liked it!!

Golden Globes 2012 (Best dressed of the night!)

The Golden Globes 2012 happened this past Sunday and as usual, it was a very glamorous event! This year the Red Carpet was filled with beautiful ladies and gorgeous men! All Hollywood stars were there and the majority of them looked great! I selected some pictures of the stars that I thought were the best dressed of the night! Check it out!

Ok, so my absolute favorite of the night was Kim Kardashian! She looks soo elegant.. almost as if she is from another time, another decade. I like how her hair matches her outfit so well.. again with the classic, elegant, but still timeless style.
As always, black is a very safe choice, and this time, Kim Kardashian REALLY proved why black is always black!! I wouldn't say this could be considered our common "little black dress", but she definitely rocked her outfit! A+!!
The beautiful details of this dress are so many that I don't even know where to start with.. Laced dress with some sparkle throughout all the gown.. I love the top part of the dress, with the little laced sleeves.
This gorgeous masterpiece is by Bruce Oldfield, complemented with Lorraine Schwartz jewels.
And when it comes to makeup, Kim nailed it (as usual). Natural color on her cheeks, bright lipstick on her lips (her earings match perfectly the color of her lipstick) and gorgeous eye makep (again, as usual!)

My second choice for beauty of the night is Mila Kunis in a gorgeous black dress (again.. most definitely NOT a normal LBD!)
Beautiful dress by Dior, with a cute, flowy fabric. Her makeup and jewels (by Cartier) were kept simple, but still very elegant! I love the strap that goes over her shoulder.. gives the dress that "it" factor, don't you think?!

Kate Beckinsale wore that night a very pretty dress by Roberto Cavalli with sequin details. Even though she has fair skin, the dress color complemented her actual color very well! The jewels she wore were almost the very same color as her dress and in my opinion that complemented her dress in a very positive way!

Jessica alba was wearing a Gucci dress and that kind of violet/nude color complemented her always bronzed skin very well. She kept her makeup and jewels simple, but yet, very beautiful.
Her hair was up, which made her look more elegant, but with this strapless dress, I think that her hair down would have looked gorgeous as well!

Couple of the night, of course: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt! Everybody always talks about them on the red carpets, how they both always look gorgeous, etc. This time, I actually agree! Angelina Jolie was flawless in a white Atelier Versace dress. Brad Pitt himself is already a more than perfect accessory (probably her best!) but that red clutch, together with her red lipstick and red detailing on her dress just made her look perfect! It's not easy to match so many things on one look, but Angelina did it in a very sutil way, and so it wasn't exagerated.
Not only her dress but what made Angelina look flawless at the Golden Globes was actually herself! Yes, Angelina Jolie wore that dress very well! She owned that dress! Her posture, the way she walks on the red carpet, her cofidence, everything combined and made her look the way she did! Congratulations to her!
Let us all agree, they look very well together!!!!

Now, question of the night: Lea Michele.. yay or nay?!?!
I personally think she looked really pretty!
She was wearing a metalic Marchesa dress. I absolutely adore Marchesa and I think that Marchesa dresses are gorgeous!!
The pop of color on this look rested on her green Lorraine Schwartz ring, which was a great adition to the outfit!
The dress, the style, the way she was wearing her hair up, it all made her look older than she really is! The dress is beautiful, she looks great, but I honestly think she should dress up more "age appropriate".

Unbroken

Demi Lovato's new CD is just unbelievable! It's amazing, her songs are real, you can feel her honest feelings as she sings the lyrics. She went through a lot last year (I think everybody knows about that..) and this CD is the result of what she has gone through. Her voice is strong.. stronger then ever.
It's a beautiful thing that she has given us.. a great lesson for life! She came back stronger, wiser. Demi Lovato is definitely an inspiration for me and millions of other girls/boys/people out there!
Her music is inspiring; whenever I listen to her CD I feel like doing things.. mostly I feel like writing. As I write this post, I am listening to "Give your heart a break", which is the song she sang at the People's Choice Awards, a couple of days ago. She sang it beautifully. She has an amazing stage presence that is undeniable; something that many other performers do not have.
I totally recommend this CD to everybody out there!!

Mix & Match! (Part I)

Something that has become very trendy along the years is wearing lots and lots of bracelets, all together, mixing everything, like a cool colorfull party! I absolutely adore this trend, and I hope it continues to be a trend for a while, because I just love seing what other girls (and some boys) are wearing on their arms. Even if this trend fades away, I am going to continue to wear lots of bracelets together, because it is something that I have always done, even before this wonderfull trend came along!

We have kind of a tribal style going on here.. See how her bracelets go with her dress. They are not the exact same style, but they complete each other. Her brown bracelet matches her brown belt, which balances out her look.

Mixing all kinds of material and colors!! She even has a watch on..

Ashley Tisdale has an amazing style and she can also mix and match her bangels really well!! Look at how she is wearing different styles of bracelets.. she has silver ones, beaded ones, blue, brown.. she even has a gold one on! This just takes her entire outfit to a whole new level, for sure!

Another cool mix created by Ashley Tisdale. I love how she has some black bracelets on, kind of a rocker chic style.

Here, we have an awesome "street style" example. This girl is mixing bracelets of the same style (metal ones) but she is wearing gold and silver together. I personally do not use gold and sliver together, but here I think she did an awesome job!

And last but most definitely not least, my favorite one!!!!
I love everything about this picture! I love how she is wearing silver things (I think silver is so cool), lots of bracelets and lots of rings! She has all of her lovely bangles on one arm, and on the other one, she is wearing just a watch, which I think made her look more elegant. Her nail polish is the cutest baby blue, that matches with her shirt, and her purse brings a pop of color to her outfit!
LOVE IT! Approved!

Inspiration? Everywhere!

One thing that I really think is amazing about fashion is the fact that inspiration can be found anywhere and everywhere! We can look at the sky and imagine a beautiful blue dress and draw one.. or, we can look out our car window, see someone in a very interesting outfit, and kind of copy it, but adapting it to our own unique style. We can also travel, learn about a different culture, fall in love with it, and design a whole collection based on what we saw. What I'm saying is.. inspiration is everywhere, we just have to look at the world with different eyes.. inspired eyes!

Hello there!

Hi, how are you today?

It is a brand new year and I figured I would start a blog. Something I have been wanting to do since last year.. but just didn't. I wouldn't say it's a New Year's resolution, but the fact that it is a brand new year inspired me to start writing about what I love: fashion! I really do love fashion and everything that comes along with it; imagination, inspiration, style, different styles, glamour, sparkle, and most importantly, the expression of your true self!
First and foremost I would like to state that I am just a girl who enjoys reading about all things fashion and decided to write my own blog, to share my thoughts with other girls/people that also like to save a moment of each day to read about fashion and "girly things".
That being said, i will start posting fashion updates about, in my opinion, some very interesting things!

Thankyou!
